Let's Talk Music

It's a Sat morning! (or afternoon actually) :D

I was up late yesterday searching for nice indie songs cos I LOVE THE INDIE GENRE! Once i start song hunting i can't really stop so i went on till 1.30 am!

I like how abstract they are, and even though for most of them the lyrics don't really carry much meaning, i like it. I mean, it's life isn't it? When you're doing stuff everyday i'm sure you don't go into that deep melancholic or thoughtful mode 24h - inject some fun into it - music is the language shared by the universe.

music makes us one.

music has no limits.

music expresses feelings that words cannot.

Haha okay but not everyone listens to the indies - okay prob most people have heard of Foster the People (cos of Pumped Up Kicks).
But they're TONS of great indie bands out there! Like Of Monsters and MenSan Cisco (OMG SAN CISCO their popular hit is Awkward i've posted their music videos and pics on my Tumblr before) etc. And just yesterday i chanced upon Daughter and their song Youth. It's there below - it's amazing how directionless the lyrics are yet there's a story behind the lyrics i can understand cos that's how i feel.

I love that feeling when i find a great song and i think "oh gosh, yes, this is it. yes i've found it!"

Daughter - Youth

Shadows settle on the place, that you left.
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness.
Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time.
From the perfect start to the finish line.

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
The lovers that went wrong.

We are the reckless,
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.

And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
We're setting fire to our insides for fun.
Collecting pictures from the flood that wrecked our home,
It was a flood that wrecked this...

... and you caused it...
... and you caused it...
... and you caused it...

Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silouhette,
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget,
My eyes are damp from the words you left,
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.

And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.
Setting fire to our insides for fun,
To distract our hearts from ever missing them.
But I'm forever missing him.

And you caused it,
And you caused it,
And you caused it

Yesterday during guitar sectionals Ryan Heather Sushi Vernice and i were lepaking for a while (we've only 2 songs to prac for concert ): ) so we got Ryan(who's great at playing songs on his guitar) to play some tunes while we girls fumbled with the lyrics and sang along.

Then they asked Ryan if he knew Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift ft The Civil Wars. Ryan didn't know but the three other girls wanted him to try playing. (i didn't know the song :P) haha so when i got home pretty late (had a TERRIFIC dinner at Parkway with some guitar peeps both seniors and juniors OMG i wanna do it again) i went to Youtube the song.

I was a lil skeptical at first cos i'm not a big fan of Taylor Swift. But i really took to the song cos of its feel which i attribute to The Civil Wars(PLUS it's from Hunger Games :D)

Taylor Swift ft The Civil Wars
Safe and Sound

I remember tears streamin' down your face
When I said I'd never let you go,
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you sayin 'don't leave leave me here alone'
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window
Darlin' everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Goooooooonnnnneeee...

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Ooh, ooh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
Ooh, ooh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh,
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh,
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oohhh.
